It’s been a busy month at Chalk and Ward PR, working on some really exciting projects for our valued clients. In February, we were delighted to add Powderham Castle to that list, following Chalk and Ward Advertising’s successful work on their branding at the end of 2015.
One of the most prominent historic buildings in Devon and a popular visitor attraction, there’s so many interesting stories to tell about Powderham Castle and we’re incredibly pleased to be working with the team. Located 8 miles south of the city of Exeter, the Powderham Estate has over 600 years of history contained within its walls, having been built by Sir Phillip Courtenay in 1391.
The estate has played an influential role in Devon’s history and now has a vital role to play in its future. The Castle is a major tourist attraction, popular with families, school groups and visitors of all ages, whilst also being a highly sought-after wedding venue, offering beautiful interiors and picturesque, idyllic landscapes. Each year the Castle plays host to hundreds of themed events as well as music concerts, recitals and themed children’s activities.
Under the guidance of the new Earl and Countess of Devon, Charlie and AJ Courtenay, the Castle is beginning another exciting chapter in its storied history.
Speaking of which…
Radio 1’s Big Weekend comes to Powderham Castle
Yes, you read that correctly. Shortly after we began working with the team at Powderham, the Castle was short-listed by the BBC and finally chosen as the perfect place for 50,000 music fans to see some of the biggest acts in the world today.
The Big Weekend is Europe’s largest free-entry festival and has been the hot topic of conversation since it was announced at the beginning of this month. This year guests will enjoy two days of incredible music, featuring the likes of Coldplay, Ellie Goulding and Chase & Status.
Coldplay lead singer, Chris Martin, who was born and raised near the Powderham Estate in Kenton, said he was looking forward to returning for the Big Weekend. He said “I spent the first years of my life less than 500 yards from where we’ll be performing, so this couldn’t be more of a homecoming for me. Guy, Will, Jonny and I are honoured to be on the bill and we’re looking forward to a very special show.”
Radio 1’s Big Weekend is just one of many interesting PR projects coming up; not just with Powderham, but with our varied portfolio of clients, working across a range of industries and sectors. Of course, we’ll be telling you all about it (that is our job, after all…) so stay tuned to see what’s on the horizon as the year unfolds.
