Before you read any further, this is not an announcement that Chalk & Ward are upping sticks, moving the goalposts and kicking into touch the advertising part of our business and becoming a professional rugby team!
At a recent rugby match/demolition, Exeter Chiefs 44-29 Cardiff Blues, in which Robert Chalk & Stacy Hill were ‘treating’ a Cardiff based client and Blues fans to the game, it became apparent that we have a vested interest not only in our local team, but also an interest in 2 additional Heineken Cup teams sponsored by clients we are currently working with or have done business in the recent past:
Cardiff Blues: Sponsored by DS Smith Recycling
Castres: Sponsored by Pierre Fabre
Exeter Chiefs: Sponsored by Centrax
The client predicted “a hiding” and was bang on, but before you ask for the lottery numbers for next week, he did predict the hiding to be inflicted upon Exeter rather than Cardiff.
This is a terrific achievement for Chalk & Ward, especially when you consider the Heineken Cup is made up of the 24 best teams from around Europe and we are working with lead sponsors for 3 teams, from 3 different leagues and 3 separate countries.
It is a case of well done all round as not only are our clients gaining exposure throughout Europe as a result of their sponsored teams success, Exeter & Castres won their opening fixtures in the Heineken Cup, or the H Cup in France (due to licensing rules), whereas Cardiff as mentioned before… didn’t.
So not only this year have we been appointed as the UK agency in the global TAAN Network (a group comprising the best independent agencies around the world, with only one member agency for each country), we are now involved in the Heineken Cup to a significant degree too!
