Last weekend saw the annual Exeter Food & Drink Festival take place at Exeter Castle and Northernhay Gardens.
Despite the dodgy British weather, the three day festival attracted around 20,000 visitors who flocked to the event to indulge in the region’s best food & drink, see some of TV’s top Celebrity Chefs and enjoy the entertaining demos.
The event is now in its 13th year; a number unlucky for some and indeed for our very own Robert Chalk who took part in Fry-day’s omelette challenge… and ended up with egg on his face.
The challenge, held by chartered accountants Kirk Hills, requires eight business leaders from around Exeter to whip up an omelette as quickly as possible, providing egg-cellent entertainment for the 100+ guests who watched the event.
And the result?
Robert was unfortunately disqualified from the competition for serving the acclaimed judge, 2 Michelin starred chef, Michael Caines MBE, with a raw finished product with added egg-shell but pleads his innocence saying, “Michael Caines was egging me on and telling me to ‘put it on the plate!’ and when a 2 starred chef tells you it’s ready, you have to believe him!”
A likely story…
Chris Bentley from the Exeter Chiefs was crowned the overall winner following the cracking competition.
That’s all yolks 🙂
