The Magdalen Chapter Hotel was recently voted Best City Hotel 2013 by Food and Travel Magazine Readers and “Contemporary Wonderland” in the Alastair Sawday’s Guides. It is situated in the iconic building that was formerly The West of England Eye Hospital. With a leading Chef heading up the theatre kitchen restaurant, a spa featuring award winning REN offers facials and massages and bedrooms housing the latest in technology, luxurious high-end bathrooms and unrivalled comfort, the hotel is arguably one of the best in the South West and potentially the UK.
Chalk & Ward’s Offline PR team were delighted to win a four month contract over several other big PR agencies in the region to work with the Swire Hotel Group and their sub-brand Chapter Hotels to launch The Magdalen Chapter Hotel in Exeter. Previously the West England Eye Hospital, the 19th century building has been sympathetically restored by award winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley to become a contemporary 59-bedroom hotel, attracting rave reviews for its luxury, sophistication, food and innovation.
Chalk & Ward were asked to generate regional pre-launch buzz around the announcement of the opening date, to work on strategic offline PR plans around The Restaurant, Spa and Hotel and to provide contacts for, and manage coverage for, launch parties and press events.
The Result: Offline PR
During the contract Chalk & Ward PR managed to generate many offline PR pieces including editorial coverage in target publications; Exeter Life, Devon Life, Exeter Living, The Western Morning News, The Express and Echo, Food Magazine, Fork Magazine, Taste Buds, Crumbs, Boulter Bowen Magazine, SW Business Insider and online reviews as well as interest in regional broadcast media. Media Relations were enhanced through journalists’ dinners and lunches. Reviews were organised that generated multiple pages of coverage and photography in key media. The launch party was an enormous success and our photographer captured the event for many national and regional press.
