Vospers win Best UK Dealership Website Award 2012
Big News! Vospers has won the hugely prestigious award for “Best Dealership Website” at the Automotive Management Awards.
Chalk & Ward were appointed early in 2010 to design and build a completely new and bespoke website for the South West’s largest car dealership and this award means a huge amount to the whole agency.
Planning and developing the website was a massive technical challenge as the site needed to not only be visually engaging and informative but also able to deliver the level of management information required by a large dealership.
Our solution was to create, from the ground up, a completely new Content Management System that enabled Vospers to upload offers and information easily, it also provides systems that communicate with various data providers and external websites such as autotrader.co.uk and motors.co.uk, whilst automatically updating stock in real-time, across the entire dealership.
The Automotive Management awards are considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of the industry presented by BBC’s Susanna Reid which was no mean feat considering she was back on the BBC Breakfast sofa this morning!

Woodlands visitor numbers boosted by new TV ad!
Chalk & Ward were engaged eight months ago to help promote and boost visitor numbers at Woodlands family theme park near Dartmouth.
The present economic climate has led to falling visitor numbers across attractions in Devon, so a radical advertising strategy was called for. Thanks to a multi-channel campaign featuring TV, radio, press advertising, online activity, 48 sheet posters and service station washroom posters, Woodlands have seen a sharp rise in visitor numbers – up on the last five years.
Having not been on television for over 4 years, we recommended re-introducing this strong awareness medium to attract both local families and tourists alike.
With a dynamic concept and production – created to replicate the drama of Hollywood movie trailers – the ad has been a great success with a high proportion of visitors, when asked at the gate, saying they had seen it and loved it! There’s no better recommendation than that....other than all those additional sales, of course!
Chalk & Ward launch new site for Salvox
Biomimetics Health Industries is a life science organisation that has developed a range of unique and truly ground-breaking healthcare and hygiene solutions. Their products replicate the characteristics and chemical engineering of natural biological substances to offer exceptionally powerful yet safe chemistries with which to fight infection and disease. They are in the process of bringing these products to market in healthcare, commercial, agricultural and agrochemical markets.
Chalk and Ward were appointed Biomimetics web design agency in 2010. We launched the Biomimetics website in January 2011, followed by the Salvox website in May. Both websites are content managed and have consistent branding and identity throughout, this allows customers to see them as part of the same family. This consistent approach to their branding and identity has been followed throughout their online marketing as well.
And lastly, many congratulations to Tom Pellereau, their NPD man who recently won The Apprentice.
New Product Launch for Mole Valley Farmers
At this year’s Royal Cornwall Show, Mole Valley Farmers launched an exciting new development, the first of a planned range of own brand products specifically for livestock and equestrian owners. The range called ‘Molecare Animal Health’ has been researched and developed to help prevent disease and promote healthier and more productive livestock.
The first product to be launched in the range is ‘Molemec’ an Endo and Ecto Pour-on cattle wormer. Mole Valley Farmers is the first in its sector to develop its own brand strategy for ivermectin based products.
Chalk & Ward’s involvement with the project started some 18 months ago, when we were asked to look at own label packaging for the new medicine range. We developed the overall concept of “MoleCare Animal Health Range” as the overarching brand and all the own label packaging for a number of cattle, sheep and equine products.
For the launch we created an in-house farm sales area, stacked with own label boxes, various exhibition panels and fully lit, rotational, large scale display unit.
Since MoleMec was launched to the agri market at the Royal Cornwall Show sales have exceeded expectations.
Living Homes - Leaflet redesign
Living Homes has been a client of Chalk and Ward since 1989! We are proud of our long relationship that has seen us support many areas of their marketing and advertising including door drops, press ads, radio and tv campaigns.
As an independent retailer selling furniture, upholstery and electrical items every penny counts and incisive, sales-led marketing is vital. Central to their marketing spend is a regular door-dropped leaflet to homes within a radius of the stores. This has been an extremely successful and effective tool for a number of years to tell Living Homes’ customers of their great in-store offers.
Like all marketing this is a continually evolving piece and this year has seen a fresh revamp of the design aimed at being even more engaging for the customer. The new smart A4, 8-page format allows for clearer images, more great offers and new product lines.
Delicious Facebook pages for Gidleigh Park and The Bath Priory
The mouths have been watering here at the agency this month as we have been working with the Sunday Times voted ‘Best Restaurant of the Year’ Gidleigh Park and also the equally stunning Bath Priory on the design of new Facebook pages for both venues.
We aimed to create pages that offered enhanced levels of interaction between the page and the visitor that appealed to a Facebook savvy audience whilst always maintaining the luxury, high-end appeal of both venues.
Book your room or make a table reservation at ABode Hotels through Facebook
Following the successful launch of the Social Media strategy for ABode Hotels we have now included room and table booking to the Group’s Facebook page. This new level of functionality will enable the Group’s 1000+ followers to respond to the various offers and promotions uploaded to the page directly. We will be working with ABode Hotels on further enhancements to their Social Media offering including the use of location based marketing so there are many more exciting projects and campaigns planned.
New website and Facebook page for Woodlands Family Theme Park
Having last year pitched for and won the marketing and advertising account for Woodlands Family Theme Park we are delighted to announce that the new website for the Devon based attraction has gone live. The challenge we faced was to design and build a website that was technically advanced, including massive image galleries and video libraries as well as online ticketing, whilst still appealing visually to a very wide and diverse target audience.
The team at Woodlands now has a visually stunning site that is content managed by them and able to provide all of the reporting and marketing data that is required by a business of this nature.
We have also worked with Woodlands on their Social Media strategy including the design of a bespoke Facebook page with online ticket buying functionality.
We are extremely pleased with the new site and it has been a huge effort by the entire digital team here at the agency, particularly Jay and Ieuan in the development team and also Stuart, our Head of Digital. They stoically burnt the midnight oil but the end result is superb.
Top marks for Chalk & Ward as we help launch ‘Ten out of Ten’ Hospitality Management Training initiative
The ‘Ten out of Ten’ initiative is an exceptional opportunity to join an industry led training program backed by ten of the most prestigious hotels in the UK and designed to create future stars of the hospitality industry, Chalk & Ward are extremely proud to have been asked to build the website and also design the Facebook page that will help promote this extremely exciting project. The website is currently in development and we will announce when it goes live.
Participating hotels: Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons, Lucknam Park, Mallory Court, the Vineyard at Stockcross, Chewton Glen, Atlantic Hotel, Calcot Manor, The Fat Duck, The Bath Priory and Gidleigh Park.
Ten candidates will be offered the opportunity to complete a 25 month training program spending a 5 month period at a selection of 5 of the properties completing modules in Kitchen, Restaurant, Housekeeping/ Maintenance, HR, Sales and Marketing and Reception / Reservations. During the initial training period there will also be ten training days covering essential skills such as Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and Grievance and Disciplinary procedures.
Upon the successful completion of the training program there will be a further opportunity to take up a 6 month placement at one of the properties fulfilling a Duty Manager or Host Manager role, the full training period is offered as a paid placement. This is a tremendous chance to enter the industry at the highest level, learning your skills from some of the most well respected professionals in some exceptional properties. The success of Michel Roux’s Service program has opened the eyes of the younger generation to the benefits of a career at four and five star properties in the hospitality industry and this initiative will enhance that message.
The program is due to commence in September 2011 and applicants are invited from those aged 18 years and above who have a years experience within a 4 or 5 star property or are recent graduates with a year’s industry experience. Applications are open from 1st March – 1st June 2011 and the proposed date for interviews is the 10th June 2011. In an industry often criticised for not doing more to encourage young people to follow a career in hospitality the hotels supporting this program are taking a determined step forward to promote the very positive opportunities the industry can provide
