Project Overview

The Magdalen Chapter Hotel began life some 113 years ago as an eye hospital designed by Sir Alfred Brummell Thomas, it remained so through the first and second world wars with King George V and Queen Mary visiting by motor car in 1915. The West of England Eye Hospital was only second to the London eye hospital and its prestige kept it in the hearts of its soldiers long after their recovery. It later became part of the NHS until it was sold in 1992, some years later is became Hotel Barcelona and in 2012 became The Magdalen Chapter Hotel we know and love today.

The grandeur of the building and the role it has played in British history was a driving force behind the refurbishment and re launch under ‘The Magdalen Chapter Hotel’, quality can be seen in every room, on every plate and felt in every massage. It really is a wonderful place to stay and has earned an impressive 5 star rating on Trip Advisor.

Chalk & Ward PR were asked to generate regional pre-launch buzz around the announcement of the opening date, we developed and implemented strategic PR plans and a PR campaign around the restaurant, spa and hotel. We also managed the launch party, generated invitee list and set up all press events.
