My experience of mental health challenges have come from both an internal and external perspective. Personally, I have experienced periods of anxiety as result of the pressures of being a professional sportsman and also the father of young children.
To help manage myself through these periods, I have relied on the support of my family and friends. I also find time for myself and do something I enjoy, such as a swim in the ocean or a round of golf; these activities help to bring my focus back to the present.
From an external perspective I have been witness to a number of friends who have struggled with a range of mental health issues. In these moments, I have offered my support through ensuring that I am a keen listener and letting them know of my love and care for them. I feel this approach has helped them feel more open in expressing their concerns.
